Site Technologies

This site was created entirely by hand using only editplus (external link) which is a fantastic multi format editor with thousands of syntax files for every document type available. The program is shareware and deserves your support, go grab a free copy and try it out.

The page layout itself is based on an open source template by Andreas Viklund (external link) however it has been very *very* heavily modified in order to work with my own home built CMS called smplCMS.

smplCMS is my own perl (external link) based content management system and interacts with a mysql (external link) database in order to store and retrieve each of the pages on this site. I am currently rewriting some of the code with ajax techniques and finishing other bits. The project can be found on sourceforge at: smplCMS(external link) where there are currently no files available. As soon as the administration pages are written I'll upload a test version there.

The sbuk live music system as seen at the top right of each page is a live updating ajax widget created by myself for this site, if anyone would like the same thing on their site feel free to contact me and I'll send you all the neccesary code to implement it. The code works using a free Winamp plugin (not made by me) which uploads the current playing track data to my webserver where a perl script I wrote takes the information, reformats it, and stores it into a database. The webpage then uses an ajax call to keep checking that information and to display it on the page. The system is still considered testing and theres a number of bugs I need to work out.

The fancy text replacement with images that is featured in the header of each page is a nifty script called FLIR which is available free over at the FLIR site (external link), go check it out its really quite clever. Try turning off JavaScript and refreshing my pages to see what is going on.

Uncontrolled external links are marked with this icon: (external link icon), they take you to sites maintained by people other than me.
